The conference drew more than 1,500 participants, including students, faculty, researchers, and professionals from across the globe. It featured prominent figures in occupational therapy and autism research.
Key attendees included Dr. Nitin M. Nagarkar, Pro-Vice Chancellor (MHS) at SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre; Dr. Teresa A. May-Benson, President of TMP Educational Enterprises, USA; Dr. Akhilesh Kumar Shukla, Director of NIMHR under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, and Dr. U. Ganapathy Sankar, Organizing Secretary and Dean of SRM College of Occupational Therapy.
Dr. Akhilesh Kumar Shukla emphasized the importance of viewing autism not as a deficit but as a different way of communication. “True inclusion requires more than empathy—it is a human right. We must foster environments that support and celebrate neurodiversity. Conferences like these help shape progressive academic thought and advocate for communities designed to meet diverse needs, especially for those on the autism spectrum,” he said.
During the event, a commemorative souvenir was released and the Excellence Award in Autism was presented, highlighting SRMIST’s ongoing dedication to innovation and excellence in autism care.
This international forum facilitated the exchange of ideas and collaborative efforts across disciplines, marking a major step toward inclusive education, employment, and broader understanding of autism worldwide.
